Tasneem Afshan, Vice President of the Midwifery Association of Pakistan (MAP), delivered a compelling presentation on strengthening midwifery in Pakistan during the RMNCH and Midwifery Technical Working Group Meeting held at the Best Western Hotel, Islamabad.
The presentation highlighted the critical role of midwives in:
- Reducing maternal and neonatal mortality
- Improving adolescent and sexual health outcomes
Ms. Afshan emphasized that midwives are the backbone of the healthcare system, playing an essential role in achieving better health outcomes.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from the Federal Ministry of Health, UNFPA, UNICEF, and both international and national NGOs. The stakeholders collectively acknowledged the necessity of empowering midwives to strengthen Pakistan’s healthcare system.
