Shaista Farooqui Represents MAP at Provincial Consultative Meeting on Nursing and Midwifery

Shaista Farooqui, Executive Member (Balochistan) of the Midwifery Association of Pakistan (MAP), actively participated in the Provincial Consultative Meeting in Quetta. Although the discussions mainly focused on nursing, Shaista emphasized the critical challenges in midwifery, particularly regarding maternal and neonatal mortality in Balochistan.

Her key recommendations included:

  • Increasing midwifery positions
  • Implementing the midwifery structure
  • Introducing a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (BSCM)
  • Establishing a distinct midwifery stream and monitoring system
  • Appointing a Director of Midwifery to meet SDG targets
  • MAP is dedicated to advancing midwifery in Balochistan’s health policies.
