Advocating for the Inclusion of Essential Drugs and Contraceptives in Midwives' Scope of Practice
The Midwifery Association of Pakistan (MAP) urges the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC) to expand midwives’ scope to include administering essential drugs and contraceptives. This step will improve maternal and newborn health, enhance family planning access, and empower midwives in underserved areas.
Key Inclusions:
- Emergency & obstetric drugs (Misoprostol, Syntocinon, Tranexamic Acid)
- Antibiotics & vitamins (Ampicillin, Ferrous Sulphate, Folic Acid)
- Pain management (Paracetamol, Xylocaine)
- Contraceptives (Oral pills, IUCDs, Implants)
