International Day of Midwife Celebrated by Midwifery Association of Pakistan

In the connection with International Day of Midwife-2016, the President MAP has planned to strengthen the midwives through updated knowledge and skills. MAP has arranged following two workshops:

1. Skill Focused Mentorship Training to Develop Confidence in Community Midwives
2. Emergency Obstetrics and Neonatal Care (EmONC)

 

Skill Focused Mentorship Training To Develop Confidence In Community Midwives
MAP took the initiation for conducting two days workshop for clinical officers working across 11 districts of Sindh. The workshop was conducted on April 27th & 28th, 2016 with collaboration of MCHIP and USAID on ‘Skill Focused Mentorship Training’ for the practicing midwives. . Mentorship is a two-way partnership which is equally beneficial for both the mentor and the mentee. In midwifery it aims to aid socialization into the profession, improves confidence, and extends understanding of supporting relationships.

The mentorship training has been developed for building mentors for the deployed community midwives. The participants of the workshop were the clinical officers who are willing to serve as potential mentors. The training consisted of six sessions, including mentorship and its process, establishing boundaries, problem solving, effective communication skills, assessment skills and complaint handling.

Emergency Obstetrics And Neonatal Care (EMONC)
MAP took the initiative for conducting two days workshop on EmONC 9th & 10th May,2016 for 17 midwifery teachers of Sindh. The training was sponsored by the MCHIP and USAID, whereas facilitation was given by the Association for Mothers and Newborns (AMAN) and the Aga Khan University School of Nursing and Midwifery (AKU-SONAM).

 

Objectives Of The EMONC Workshop
To improve maternal and newborn health in the participant’s workplace,Improving the quality of emergency care provided to women during pregnancy and labor, and to newborn babies.
