Shaista Farooqui, representing the Midwifery Association of Pakistan (MAP), attended the ICM Regional Conference in Kigali, Rwanda, from September 24th to 26th, 2024. The event gathered midwifery professionals from across the globe to discuss critical challenges and innovative solutions in maternal and neonatal care.
Shaista participated in sessions focused on the role of midwives in humanitarian crises, the global shift toward midwife-led care, and building sustainable midwifery associations. Workshops on abortion care, collaborative partnerships between midwifery associations, and improving midwifery education offered hands-on learning and fostered global collaboration.
The knowledge and connections gained from this conference will enhance MAP’s ongoing efforts to improve maternal and newborn health in Pakistan and contribute to strengthening midwifery leadership and advocacy at both national and international levels.
