Midwifes: for better tomorrow
On MAY 5, 2015 MAP celebrated the International Day of the Midwives (IDM) and a midwifery conference for midwives of Karachi in collaboration with partner agencies, includingMNCH Sindh and Ipas, which is a global NGO dedicated to ensuring safe respectful and comprehensive reproductive health care to women. DrSahibJanBaddar Provincial Director MNCH Sind was the honorable chief guest of the event. The main highlights of the day were midwifery conference for participating midwives, and IDM celebration ceremony. The midwifery conference offered capacity building andskill development sessions to improve the knowledge, practice, and attitude of practicing midwives towards their profession. The session includes safe use of Misoprostol, helping baby breath, active management of third stage of labor, Postpartum IUCD insertion, and ICT and M health for midwives. These sessions were conducted by senior practicing midwives, midwifery tutorsand doctors. The conference was attended by were around 150 practicing midwives and senior midwifery students. All of the participants of the conference were awarded with the certificate of Participation on behalf of MAP. A marketing stall of DKT Pakistan was also setup in the event for practicing midwives.
Followed by the conference, a formal IDM celebration ceremony took place. The ceremony was attended by additional guest including MAP board members, representatives of MAP well-wishers partners, and other NGOs and principlesand tutors of 25 midwifery schools of Karachi. There were speeches by DrRafat Jan, President MAP, DrGhulamShabbir Country Head Ipas, and DrSahibJanBadar, and then a token of appreciation was presented to the chief guest and Ipascountry manage on behalf of MAP. A memento was also presented to the speakers and facilitators of the midwifery conference. Moreover a small gift of chocolates was presented to the representatives of partner agencies who attended the event. The event was concluded with cake cutting ceremony which was followed by lunch. The conference was highly admired by all the participants, speakers and partners attending the conference.
