A strategic Consultative meeting was held on February 26, 2015 with the joint efforts of MAP, Ipas, and MNCH Sind, at the Avari Tower Hotel, Karachi Pakistan. Overall, 28 participants attended the meeting, including DG health Punjab, Provincial Directors MNCH Sindh and Punjab, Additional program director Policy and strategic planning unit Lahore, Assistant Director of Nursing Sind, Midwifery Specialist MNCH Sind, representatives of several NGOS , District Focal Person MNCH Sind, consultants OBGYN, and principles of several midwifery schools.
The consultative meeting aims to develop a way forward for expanding provider base for safe Post abortion care (PAC) and use of Long Acting Reversible Contraceptive (LARC) Methods in Sindh. There were several presentations on the current status of PAC And LARC in Sind. A presentation by Dr Zahida Sarwar Additional program director Policy and strategic planning unit Lahore, shed light on the policy developments and good practices implemented by Punjab for integration of Misoprostol and MVA into the health systems and trainings of the midlevel providers including community midwives. The participants also discussed ways to strategize the adoption and implementation of good practices for improving access to safe Post abortion Care (PAC) services and the role and training needs of the midlevel providers in Long Acting Reversible Contraceptive methods in Sindh. The Participant unanimously agreed to work for the enhancement of the quality of midwifery care provision for PAC and LARC: functional integration of partners: community mobilization and advocacy for PAC and LARC.
